Hit record. Don't think about it.

RecordLog app icon — gold microphone on dark charcoal

RecordLog is the voice recorder for the student taping a lecture, the interviewer capturing a conversation, the note-taker at a meeting, and anyone who needs audio captured right now — not after fighting a menu. One tap starts. The screen tells you plainly that you're recording. Recordings are safe, findable, and yours.

No artificial time limit

RecordLog will not cut you off at 5 minutes or 60. There is no timer cap at all — a session is bounded only by your device's storage, and RecordLog shows its estimate before and during recording. Long meetings, long lectures, long everything: keep recording.

Free to download. Pay once when it matters.

RecordLog is a free App Store download with a 7-day, full-featured trial — every feature, including recording, works for those seven days. When the trial ends, the library, playback, export, the included Apple transcription, and everything you've already recorded stay fully functional. The one thing that asks for payment is creating something new after the trial — new recordings, trims, transcripts, a change to recording settings, or a Boom Mic session: a single one-time purchase unlocks those forever. No subscription, no ads, no account.

Built for the complaints real recorder apps get

The #1 complaint in voice recorder apps is subscription paywalls. Then: crashes, ads, data loss, login walls. RecordLog is built the opposite way: free to try so a student mid-semester isn't gambling, a simple one-time purchase instead of a subscription, and no paywall on any recording you've already made. Local-first so there's nothing to lose, no ads, no account.

Reliable when it matters

Start recording and the state is unmistakable: elapsed time, input level, an explicit Recording label you never have to guess at. Capture continues through screen lock and backgrounding — a call or a route change finalizes what you have safely, and nothing silently disappears. Interrupted sessions are detected and recovered on next launch.

Long recording? Lock the transport. One tap disables pause and stop for the session, so an accidental screen touch or a pocket bump can't kill a lecture you've been capturing for an hour. To unlock, RecordLog asks you to confirm first, with Cancel as the safe default.

Private by design — and honest about the edges

Your recordings are stored on your iPhone. RecordLog has no account, no analytics, no advertising SDK, and no server. Audio leaves your device only when you choose: exporting through the share sheet, archiving to your own cloud storage (iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox via the Files app), or explicitly approving an Apple-server transcription for a specific recording — never automatically. Transcription itself runs on your device first, whenever Apple's on-device recognition supports your language.

What RecordLog is not

RecordLog is not a full professional DAW — it won't replace a mixing desk, and it doesn't do effects or mastering. But it is built for serious capture: dual-mono interviews (two lapel mics, each voice kept on its own channel in one file, never blended), Boom Mic live monitoring through a Bluetooth speaker, and Video Sync timecode are all in version 1. Support for four mics — two dual-mono pairs in one file — may come in a future version. What RecordLog won't ever be: a live-transcription meeting bot, a covert recorder, an account-based collaboration service, or a subscription.

RecordLog is published by TLC Designs. Available on the App Store.

Why it's special

What makes RecordLog special?

⚡

One-tap capture, state you can trust

Record from the root screen — start, pause, resume, stop — with elapsed time, input level, and an explicit Recording/Paused label. RecordLog never claims to be recording before the first audio buffer is safely on disk, and it never creates empty recordings when start fails.

⏱️

No artificial time limit

No 5-minute cutoff, no 60-minute cap, no upgrade tier that "unlocks longer recordings." A session is bounded only by your device's storage, with the estimated remaining time shown before and during recording. Record the whole lecture, the whole meeting, the whole session.

📚

A library that actually organizes

Folders, rename, favorites, search, sort, and multi-select. Every recording shows its name, date and time, duration, format, file size, folder, and favorite state at a glance. Find what you need without scrolling a wall of "Recording 001."

✂️

Safe front/end trim

Trim dead air off the front and end of a recording — prompted right after you stop if you want, or any time later. Preview first (non-destructive), then save: RecordLog validates the new file, commits it atomically, and only then removes the old one. If trimming fails, your original is still there.

📤

Export anywhere, in real formats

Multi-select and export through the system share sheet: the original file (M4A, CAF, or FLAC — byte for byte), a WAV compatibility copy, a Broadcast WAV with embedded start timecode for editors, separate 24-bit stems per channel for multi-mic recordings, an optional CSV catalog, and TXT or SRT transcripts. Recordings move to your Mac, a colleague, an editor, or a non-Apple device without a fight.

🎚️

Formats for the casual note AND the musician

Default High Quality AAC-LC at 48 kHz mono just works. Prefer more? High Quality Stereo (48 kHz, 256 kbps), Lossless ALAC or FLAC, or Uncompressed linear PCM at 24-bit/48 kHz — presets with storage estimates, not a wall of sliders. RecordLog shows the actual input route, channel count, and sample rate before you record, and warns about reduced-bandwidth Bluetooth mics.

🎧

Noise Reduction on every mono track

Quiet background noise while you record — air-conditioning hum, room tone, a fan — entirely on your iPhone, never uploaded. It's off by default, best for speech, and works on the built-in mic and external one-channel mics. The deep details live in the Noise Reduction docs.

🎙️

Two mics, one recording — kept apart

A dual-mono lapel-mic setup — interviewer and guest, each with their own mic — records both voices cleanly into one two-channel file, never blended: each side gets its own channel, its own meter, and later its own exported 24-bit WAV via Separate Tracks. It needs a two-channel input (a USB interface or a receiver in split mode). Setup steps: Dual Mono Mics.

🔊

Boom Mic — live monitor through a Bluetooth speaker

Connect a Bluetooth speaker and your voice comes out in near-real time — a quick PA for a classroom, a meeting room, or a rehearsal. Optional session-scoped recording. Honest limits and refused routes: Boom Mic.

🗣️

Apple transcription included

Transcription is included with the free download and the trial — no extra add-on, no paywall on text. Manually transcribe any completed recording (en-US English), on-device first wherever Apple's on-device recognition supports it. Transcripts export as TXT or SRT; make a PDF any time with the system's built-in Make PDF action.

☁️

Optional cloud archive to YOUR storage

Pick a destination in the Files app — iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox — and RecordLog archives recordings automatically with visible status. Provider archives are immutable: RecordLog never overwrites, moves, or deletes them, even if you delete the local copy. Import archives back anytime; Remove from iPhone clears local space without touching your provider files.

🛡️

Transport lock for the pocket moment

One accidental screen touch can't stop or pause an active recording. Lock the transport with a tap; unlocking requires an explicit confirmation with Cancel as the safe default. The lock never alters the audio — it just protects it from your pocket.

🔒

Local-first. Your data moves only when you say so.

No account. No login. No ad SDK, no analytics SDK, no tracking. Recordings live on your device and work fully offline. Audio leaves only through your own actions — an export you share, a cloud archive you configure, or an Apple-server transcription job you explicitly approve — and RecordLog tells you exactly which is happening, when.
