Troubleshooting

Fix the common issues yourself — entry errors, display surprises, purchase restore, storage, and when to send a diagnostics report.

Troubleshooting

Most ConstructionPal issues sort out in under a minute. Start here before contacting support.

Entry problems

  • "It won't accept my entry." The entry is invalid — a fraction with a zero denominator, a malformed decimal, mixed formats the parser can't resolve. Read the message: it names the problem. Fix that part and continue. See Calculator.
  • "The answer looks wrong." Check your smallest-fraction setting first — a 1/2″ step hides precision that a 1/32″ step shows. The stored value is exact; switch steps to see it sharpen. See Units & rounding.
  • "Metric and imperial mixed badly." Mixed expressions are supported, but each operand still needs a unit the app recognizes. Spell out ambiguous units (2 m, 6′ 3″) rather than bare numbers.

Display surprises

  • "Fraction and decimal disagree." They can't — both render from the same exact stored value. If they look off, you're reading the rounded display against a coarser fraction step. Drop to 1/32″ to confirm.
  • "Text is too small." The app follows your device text size up to the largest accessibility settings. Enlarge text in iOS Settings; ConstructionPal follows.
  • "Layout looks cramped." iPhone is portrait-first. On iPad, rotate or resize — the layout adapts.

Purchase problems

  • "I bought it but it still asks me to unlock." Use Restore Purchase in Settings while signed in with the Apple ID that bought it. Still stuck? Check the Purchase & unlock page, then contact support with your App Store receipt.
  • "Family member can't use it." Family Sharing is enabled, but each member still needs to install the app under the family group. Have them restore purchase if prompted.
  • "I reinstalled — is my data gone?" App data is removed with the app unless your iCloud device backup restores it. Purchases are always restorable; measurements depend on your backup.

Storage

  • "The app is using space." Settings shows exactly how much the app's data uses. Years of history are small — text and numbers, not audio — but if you want it gone, delete old projects individually or use delete-all-data.

Crashes and weirdness

  • Force-quit and relaunch. Calculation state is saved as you go; relaunching loses nothing.
  • Restart the device if relaunch doesn't clear it.
  • Still broken? Send the diagnostics report from Settings through Feedback and describe what you were doing. The report contains no measurements — add anything relevant yourself.
